Game Of the Week: GM Libiszewski vs. GM Edouard

Opening: B90: Sicilian: Najdorf: Unusual White 6th moves, 6 Be3 Ng4 and Be3 e5

Player(s): Libiszewski, Edouard

Three-time U.S. Champion GM Joel Benjamin brings you a new show every Friday at 15:00 Server Time. Joel is regarded by many as one of the best commentators and analysts' we have in the game today -- so if you want to get ahead of the game, get ready to tune-in!

With so many games from so many international tournaments, amazing encounters can occasionally slip under the radar. For this week's featured game, I am indebted to Canadian Grandmaster Kevin Spraggett, who witnessed the game and recounted the story on his website, Spraggett On Chess, as well as my good friend GM Yasser Seirawan, who steered me to the webpage.

In the game from the Spanish Team Championship, a lesser known French GM, Fabien Libiszewski, presses his higher rated opponent Romain Edouard, also of France, for the first thirty moves. With his back up against the wall, Edouard finds some amazing resources (particularly the thirtieth move), leaving the players to sift through enormous complications with very little time left on their clock. We, on the other hand, get to enjoy the fireworks in a stress-free environment.
