Improve Your Chess: Bold Sacrifice Should Have Won

Opening: A15: English opening

After a fairly equal opening, White erroneously allows Black to close the center and gain space. After White plays the proper pawn break, Black sacrifices a piece for two pawns and a strong attack. The play becomes complicated with both sides missing instructive chances, especially Black. Eventually Black wins back some material but must allow a draw; however he goes the wrong way with his king and loses a piece to stop mate. White then finally wins easily with his extra rook despite Black's several extra pawns.
