***** PING ***** Command : ping Usage : ping [] This command displays statistics about the network latency or "lag" on the connection between the ICC server and someone's computer (yours, if no player is specified), and attempts to make another such measurement. It shows the mean, number of samples, and standard deviation for the current login session. All measurements are given in millseconds (thousandths of a second). Then, a "ping" message is sent from ICC to the timestamp or graphical interface program of the specified player. That program then returns a message to the ICC. You are shown the time taken by this round trip, in milliseconds. Please note that the "ping" message used in all of these measurements is sent within the same data stream as other ICC information. It is not the same as a stand-alone UNIX ping, and typically has much higher round-trip time because all the other data must make it through also. Ping only works if the player is running a timestamp client. The "lagstats" command gives information on the average lag for all players. See also: lag, lagstats, timestamp
