Today is the birthday of Grandmaster Pascal Charbonneau, born in Montreal, Canada, on May 6, 1983.
He has been a twice Canadian champion (2002 and 2004), is an expert in mathematics and finance, and has worked on Wall Street.
Charbonneau participated in the Olympics five times between 2000 and 2008 and was married to Grandmaster Irina Krush.
Pascal reached his highest Elo rating in May 2007 with 2517 points. He returned to playing standard-time games in 2024 after a twelve-year absence from competitions.
Throughout his career, he boasts victories against renowned names such as Nakamura and Short and a world champion, Anand, whom he defeated at the Torino Olympics.
