Today is the birthday of Grandmaster Wesly So, born in Bacoor, Philippines, on October 9, 1993.
Wesley became a grandmaster at 14. He is a three-time Philippine Champion.
In 2014, he decided to switch federation, moving to the USA. He is a three-time US champion (2017, 2020, and 2021).
With the US Team, Wesley won the gold medal at the 2016 Olympiad and the individual gold.
In 2019, Wesley became the Chess 960 World Champion.
He's undoubtedly one of the strongest players in the international circuit. Welsey reached his peak rating of 2822 Elo points when he was coached by GM Vladimir Tukmakov.
Wesley's playing style, characterized by great aggressiveness when he was younger, has changed over time, and now it's less risky.
