Today, we remember Grandmaster Yuri Dokhoian, born in Altai Krai, Russia, on October 26, 1964.
With a peak rating of 2580 Elo points, Yuri was among the first 50 players in the world at the end of the 80's and at the beginning of the 90's.
He quit playing professionally to follow Garry Kasparov and to be his eternal second.
When Kasparov quit the competition, Dokhoian became coach of the Russian Women's Team, leading the Kosintseva sisters to earn the GM title.
After his experience in the Women's Team, he became the coach of the Russian men's National Team and the trainer of Sergey Karjakin, who challenged Carlsen for the World Champion Title.
In recent years, he trained the young talent Andrey Esipenko until Dokhoian lost his battle with COVID-19 in July 2021.
