Today is the birthday of the current World Champion, Liren Ding, born in Wenzhou, China, on October 24, 1992.
Three times China Champion, two times winner at the Olympiads with his country team (2014 and 2018), Ding reached the finals of the World Cup twice. 
This year, on April 30, Liren became the Chess World Champion, defeating Russia's Ian Nopomniachtchi on tiebreaks in a very tense match.
In November 2018, Liren reached his peak rating of 2816 Elo points; at the moment, he's third in the world ranking, tied with Hikaru Nakamura, behind Carlsen and Caruana.
He is on top of the FIDE Rapid list, with 2830 points, ahead of Carlsen.
