Today is the birthday of Grandmaster Olexander Bortnyk, born in Oleksandrivka, Ukraine, on October 18, 1996.
He's the younger brother of IM Nikolay Bortnyk.
Olexander learned chess at age three. He's been coached by International Master Roman Khaetsky.
Bortnyk was European Champion U14 and U16 and became World Champion U18 in 2014.
Bortnyk is a specialist of the Bullet play; he played in the World finals, losing to Hikaru Nakamura.
His regular rating is currently 2608 Elo points, his peak so far, and his best Blitz rating was 2784, reached in April 2016.
