Korotylev got second place at the Russian Championship in 2002 and reached his peak rating in April 2007, with 2620 Elo points.
In classical chess, Korotylev drew Kasparov and defeated champions such as Nepomniachtchi, Grischuk, Tomashevsky, and Smirin.
