Today is the birthday of Grandmaster Vladimir Okhotnik, born in Kyiv, Ukraine, on February 28, 1950.
Okhotnik was the Ukrainian champion in 1979 and got his GM title by winning the World Senior Championship in 2011.
In 2015, he won the Over 65 World Championship. During his career, Okhotnik defeated super-strong players such as M.Gurevich, Kir.Georgiev, Kholmov, Fedorchuk, Glek, and Kurajica.
Okhotnik reached his peak rating in July 2000, with 2510 Elo points. He moved to France in the nineties and is now a French citizen.
Author of several books, Okhotnik wrote "It Is Never Too Late to Become a Grandmaster" and two opening books titled "Carpathian Warrior" together with GM Bogdan Lalic.
