Today is the birthday of Grandmaster Bryan Smith, born in California on February 26, 1980.
Bryan grew up in Alaska and is the only GM from that American region.
Smith reached his peak rating in July 2011, with 2502 Elo points. Smith defeated GMs such as Gareev, Shabalov, Malaniuk, and Stevic in his career.
Bryan authored several chess books, including "The Najdorf in Black and White".
