Today is the birthday of Grandmaster Sergei Tiviakov, born in Krasnodar, Russia, on February 14, 1973.
World Champion U16 and U18, Tiviakov, in the eighties and nineties, participated several times in the Imperia Chess International Festival, winning the event almost every time he participated.
Tiviakov held a record of 110 games without a loss, which was broken only by the great Carlsen. Sergei has been the Netherlands champion four times since he moved to his new country from Russia. He won an Olimpiad with Russia in 1994, and in the same year, Tiviakov became one of the candidates for the World crown (PCA).
Vassily Smyslov coached Tiviakoiv, and today Sergei is one of the best trainers in the world, having as pupils, among others, the Van Foreest brothers.
Tiviakov wrote excellent chess books, as he's a great opening expert.
He reached his peak rating in May 2005, with 2699 Elo points
