Today is the birthday of Grandmaster Glenn Flear, born in Leicester, England, on February 12, 1959.
His major success was his victory at the London Tournament in 1986, where Flear replaced one of the participants and won the event ahead of champions like Spassky, Polugaevsky, Larsen, Short, Ribli, and Speelman.
On that occasion, during the event, Flear married the French WIM Christine Leroy. The couple today lives in Montpellier, France, and have two sons.
Flear reached his peak rating in July 1999, with 2555 Elo points.
