Today is the birthday of Grandmaster Nikola Mitkov, born in Macedonia on December 18, 1971.
Nikola was the Macedonian Champion in 2002, representing his country in several international competitions.
Mitkov moved to the US, where, in Chicago, he handles the program "Chess Education Partners," teaching chess to the parents of young students.
The Macedonian GM defeated Kramnik in a youth event in 1990. Mitkov can sport wins over Ivan Sokolov, Jorden Van Foreest, Rublevsky and Bruzon.
He reached his peak rating of 2583 Elo points in January 2001.
