Today is Grandmaster Jan Smeets's birthday. He was born in Leiden, Netherlands, on April 5, 1985.
Several times Dutch youth champion (Under 14, 16, and 20), Jan won the national title twice, in 2006 and 2010, and represented his country in three Olympiads between 2008 and 2010.
