FIDE WCC for People with Disabilities

The World Chess Championship for Players with Disabilities has closed in Lublin, Poland.

Top seed GM Marcin Tazbir of Poland successfully defended his title on tiebreaks ahead of GM-elect Daniel Eduardo Pulvett Marin of Spain and FM-elect Pawel Piekielny of Poland. The last round saw plenty of action, with seven decisive results on the top eight boards.

A total of 46 players with a variety of physical, vision, and hearing disabilities represented nine countries.

One of our beloved administrators, Michael "fpawn" Aigner, played pretty well in the competition.

Michael's comment after the last round:
 
I finished in 16th place with 5.0 out of 9 and gained a handful of FIDE rating points. My result was credible, given the poor first game and strong field. Unfortunately, I could not build on a 3.0 out of 4 score and limped home with four draws and my lone defeat. Sadly, I left multiple wins on the board in the final round. Bummer!

The organizer, Pawel Zaskalski of the Polish Federation, and the staff all provided a comfortable and exciting event for the participants.
