2nd FIDE Grand Prix 2022 - Round 5

Two decisive games in Round five of the 2nd FIDE Grand Prix "pool" stage, and both in Pool C!
Shirov played a great game and defeated Fedoseev, taking the Russian out of contention for first place in the pool.

Rapport won vs. Vidit, making a serious bid on his going to the semis. Richard now leads by a whole point over Vidit, the only one in the pool who can catch the Hungarian GM. Tomorrow Rapport plays Shirov. Will the old lion change what seems to be a written fate in Pool C?

In Pool A, after today's two draws, and with one round to go, it seems like It's a Shankland-Andreikin thing. They both lead with 3 points. Grischuk, with 1.5 points, is out of contention, whereas Bacrot, with 2.5 points, could still have a word on who's going to play the semis. The Frenchman tomorrow plays Anreiking, and a win may give him hope to get to the tiebreaks if Shankland draws with Grischuk.

In Pool B, Giri leads by a whole point, and it'll be extremely hard to catch him. Tomorrow Giri vs. Vitiugov will be decisive, as Nikita is the only one who, getting the full point, can take Anish to the tiebreaks.

In Pool D, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave leads with 3.5 points, followed by Mamedyarov and Yu Yangyi with 2.5. Tomorrow MVL plays Mamedyarov, in a super-exciting game, which could decide the pool.
