It's Levon Aronian's tournament to lose! After beating the Dutch no1, Anish Giri, in round 10, the amenable Armenian World no.2 now has an impressive +5 score at the top on 7.5/10, a full point ahead of his nearest rival, Vassily Ivanchuk, who leapfrogged Magnus Carlsen in the standings after beating cellar-dweller David Navara.
Checkout and support the Tata Steel Rd.10 video recap with an extended 17min Levon Aronian post-mortem on his game with Giri. The video recaps can be found daily on the ICC Facebook page or the ICC homepage.
Facebook Poll Levon Aronian leads the Tata Steel Chess tournament by a full point going into Friday's final three rounds - can he hold on to win his third Tata Steel title?
Aronian is definitely in the money, and he's the clear odds-on favorite now to win his third Tata Steel Chess tournament. And in doing so, he also has a good chance of replacing Carlsen as the new number one! So far, Aronian has gained a massive 21.5-point swing on the unofficial live ratings to be within seven points of taking the top spot - and if it wasn't for his round three setback of losing to Carlsen, he would have been the new World No.1 by now!
And as we move into the final weekend of action, Aronian still has everything to play for - its not just the title that's up for grabs for him, its also the coveted no1 spot in the world rankings. The Grandmasters of the Mic Chess.FM team of Yasser Seirawan, Alex Yermolinsky, David Smerdon and Ben Finegold will be following all the action live on the final weekend, starting on Friday, to see if he Aronian can indeed score a remarkable double of winning the tournament and supplanting Carlsen at the top of the world rankings.
