GM Petrov’s Master the Modern Opening for black - Video 4

Opening: :

Player(s):

In this video, GM Petrov shows you how to face one of the most dangerous lines when white goes for f4.
Black can choose between 3 strategies to get a more solid but slightly passive position with c5 and d5, where white has to go e5.
Then black should go Nh6 and Bg4, after which has to look for f6 and later for c5 break.
If he goes a6 and b5, it invites pressure, and white often goes for e5 but then black with Nd7 and c5 could break the center. However, black has to be alert as his king is still in the center.
And finally, black can switch to the main lines of the Pirc with Nf6. Here he can choose between the early c5, which allows Bb5, or can first castle and then play Na6 with idea c5 or Nc6 with idea e5.
Overall, black has many options depending on what kind of game he wants.
