GM Petrov: Surprise Repertoire for Black after 1.e4 e5, 2.Nf3 - Video 8: 2.Nf3 Nc6, 3. Bc4 f5

Opening: C50: Rousseau gambit

Player(s):

In this video, we will finally see the normal second move Nc6 for black, and when you think it will be a standard opening, he meets Bc4 with f5. This is a kind of reversed Kings gambit with a tempo down, which already sounds not great. But surprisingly, it is not so bad. White has many options, but most of them are not so good. After exf5, black should go for e4, and he is fine. Nc4 is very bad because of fxe4 and d5. Bg8 also is not good, as black has a pair of bishops. It leaves white with d3, whereas black has a choice of two plans, as I think the one with d6 and Be7 looks interesting. If white goes for d4, black can choose between two or even three lines with complicated positions.
