GM Petrov: Surprise Repertoire for Black after 1.e4 e5, 2.Nf3 - Video 1: 2…Qf6

Opening: C40: Greco Defense

Player(s):

In this video, we will see one rare line where Black goes 2...Qf6.
White now has a few options to develop. If he tries with 3 d4, this is not so dangerous, and Black should take exd4. Now, Nd4 Bc5 leads to the main lines of Scotch. If White goes 4.Bg5, there is Qb6 forcing Qd4, and after Nc6, Black is totally fine.
If White doesn't go for d4 and just develop with Bc4 and then d3, Nc3, what should Black do? Here the plan is Bc5, Ne7, d6, and even h6, g5 Ng6, Nf4, and attack on the kingside.
The best plan for White is 3.Nc3, and if c6, then after d4, White is much better. However, you can go 3...Nc6, where the things are not so bad.
