This week we tackle a theme that is most relevant to the opening phase. The pawn push c5-c4 for Black, and c4-c5 for White, is popular in amateur games, and occasionally seen in master games, too. We will investigate why it is just bad sometimes, when it can be okay, and when it leads to a beneficial transformation of the position.
