Carlsen wins again! GM Joel’s final recap of Tata

GM Joel recaps the last three rounds of the Tata Steel Masters 2022.
It's no surprise that Magnus won the event. With Dubov's forfeit due to testing positive to Covid, Magnus has a whole point assured in the last round. That's it; Magnus needed a draw in round 12 to be sure he would emerge victoriously. Carlsen played a fantastic game with Caruana and won round 12, getting his score to +4 and 8.5 points. With the last round point, Magnus reached 9.5/13, too much for everyone.
Mamedyarov had an excellent tournament, finishing second, jointly with Richard Rapport - with 8.0/13. Rapport showed he belongs to the elite. Anish Giri was playing amazing chess; after the disastrous game against Carlsen in Round 2, he shifted gear, and for a long part of the event, seemed to be the only one able to keep Magnus' pace. Then somehow, Giri crashed and had to settle for 4th place, with 7.5/13.
Vidit, the early leader, had a horrible second part of the tournament, losing to his younger fellow Indian Praggnanandahaa in round 10, Mamedyarov in round 12, and Karjakin in round 13.
This year's tournament in Wijk aan Zee has been simply fantastic. There were very few quick draws, a lot of blood spilled everywhere, young talents and seasoned grandmasters battling over the board.
