Today is the birthday of Grandmaster Mikhail Gurevich, born in Kharkiv, Ukraine, on February 22, 1959.
Gurevich was the Ukrainian Champion in 1984, the Russian Champion in 1985, the Belgian Champion in 2006, and the Turkish Champion in 2006 and 2008.
In 2007, Gurevich was a Candidate for the World Title, and he's been in the first ten positions in the world between the end of the eighties and the beginning of the nineties,
reaching his peak rating in January 2000, with 2694 Elo points.
Gurevich is a Senior FIDE Trainer and coached a umber of champions, among which there is Anand.
Gurevich is an endgame virtuoso and a great openings expert, particularly in the French defense.
