Today is the birthday of former FIDE World Champion Rustam Kasimdzhanov, born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on December 5, 1979.
Asian Champion in 1998 and runner-up at the Junior World Championship in 1999, Rustam stood out at the 2000 FIDE World Championship, where he lost the finals to Anand.
In 2004, he reached the finals again after beating players of Ivanchuk, Grischuk, and Topalov caliber. The final match against Adams ended in a draw, and the title was decided in Rustam's favor with two Blitz games.
Kasimdzhanov reached his peak rating of 2715 Elo points in May 2015. He's a FIDE Senior Trainer and was Caruana's second for some time before moving on to train the Indian talent, Erigaisi.
