Bughouse (or siamese chess) is a variant of chess played between two teams of two players, on two separate boards. The pieces you capture are transferred to your partner, who is playing with the opposite color pieces from yourself. A piece may be dropped on an empty square as a move.
STARTING A BUGHOUSE MATCH
- Make sure you have Bughouse Mode enabled by going to the Settings menu and checkmarking Bughouse mode in the Playing tab:
- Find a partner by using the
bugwho
command to list users who are open for partnering, and the partner command
to offer partnerships.
- Find an opponent team, also listed with the
bugwho
command. You may also use the Bughouse
channel, channel 24, to get opponents.
- Then, have one of your team
challenge
the desired opponent on the other team to a bughouse match.

When the match is accepted and all four players are present, then both games are started. Two
Game Windows
are displayed for each player.
