Revolution Revisited - Part 5: Classical Scheveningen
This line set the stage for a classic Game 24 battle in the second match between Karpov and Kasparov. Garry won that game and the World Championship Title with it, so the Scheveningen has a special place in his memory. How did this variation stand the test of time? Honestly, it has all but been relegated to obscurity. Perhaps, the popularity of the English Attack, which is particularly effective against the black pawn on e6, is to blame. Yet, I was able to find a handful of recent games that might interest the viewer. Particularly, I am fascinated with a fresh idea of playing the black queen to b8, shown in Zherebukh-Belous. I'm not sure how to get there in standard move order, not nonetheless, it is interesting.
