As the main events of 2013 are now behind us - of course we exclude the World Championship Match - it is time to take stock. The big winner in 2013 was Vladimir Kramnik, who re-affirmed his role as the undisputed leader of Russian Chess, by providing a strong challenge to Magnus Carlsen in the Candidates and later, winning the World Cup. However, Vladimir is already 38, and he's not planning to carry that torch forever. Who has his back? Alex Yermolinsky is offering his take on a new crop of Russian Schoolboys.
