GM Joel's Chess Week Recap

St. Louis Spring Classic and French Club Championship

When your name is Awonder, and you are the youngest ever IM in the US, and you're able to score an incredible 7.5/9 in a strong tournament, to get your second GM norm, the only thing one can write is "what AWONDERful result!". The American child prodigy started the St. Louis Spring Classic "B" with five straight wins, to make it clear he's the next youngest GM in the US. The confidence and the ability to play new moves of this 14-year-old chess genius are something that is worth checking out. GM Joel analyzes for us two games, which demonstrate Liang's maturity and the prowess. From the "a" tournament in St. Louis, Joel then shows us how a strong Varuzhan Akobian plays a perfect endgame, being the excellent technical player he is. The last game GM Benjamin analyzes for us is from the French Club League, won by the Clichy Echecs 92 team, led by the super-GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, together with strong GMs such as Wojtaszek, Kosteniuk and Van Wely. Another great episode of "GM Joel's chess week recap!".
