GM Joel's Chess Week Recap

Grenke Classic and Zurich Challenge

This week Gm Joel reports from the Kortchnoi Memorial in Zurich and the Grenke Classic. So much chess going on in April! Events overlapping, with the best players in the world getting back into action after the Spring break. Hikaru Nakamura used all his rapid play skills to win again in Zurich, after he conclued the "classic" - 45 20, a very fast classic time, we'll say - tied for first with Nepomniachtchi. Levon Aronian won the Grenke Classic, a point and a half ahead of Carlsen and Caruana, showing a good state of form. Hou Yifan made the news, leading after two rounds of this strong event, finishing it with 3.5 out of 7, which is a pretty good result for the young Chinese talent.
