Sinquefield Cup 2016 - Round 5 Video Recap

Opening: E63: King's Indian: fianchetto, Panno variation

Player(s): Svidler, Nakamura

GM Alex Yermolinsky recaps Round 5. The legend has it that the great Galileo Galilei muttered the famous words "And yet it moves!", implying that the Earth does, in fact, move around the Sun, and not vice versa. And Veselin Topalov today moved it, interrupting the long 14-draw streak, winning a very good game against the Chinese talent Ding Liren. They played a long battle of almost seven hours, and Topalov showed that he still has it, entering a somewhat equal ending and strangling his opponent, forcing the Chinese into error, to bring home the full point. This win projects the Bulgarian former world champion in the sole lead, with 3.5/4, half a point ahead of the trio with Aronian, So and Anand. Tomorrow is the only rest day in St. Louis. Play resumes Thursday the 11th, at 2pm EDT -- 20:00 CEDT.
