GM Yermolinsky - Life after Astana - Part 1

Opening: D43, E04: QGD: Semi-Slav Defence, Catalan: Open 5.Nf3

Player(s): Suleymanli, Niemann, Esipenko, Sevian

A new World Champion often opens a new era in chess. Will it be this time with a chess boom in China, as they now have their guy Ding Liren on the very top? Will the center of FIDE continue its drift East, as the Russian Federation has officially joined Asian Federation? Will Magnus Carlsen ever try to get his title back? In the meantime, chess never stops. Fresh off their great battle in Astana, the NepoDing saga continues at the opening stage of the 2023 Grand Chess Tour in Bucharest. TePe Sigeman 8-player Round Robin possibly features a future World Champion, and I doubt it's going to be Gelfand or Svidler. I think of someone a bit younger. We'll talk about all that, but for now, to kick off a new series of videos, I'd like to focus on lower-profile events featuring two young American players. Guess their names before watching the video. You can download the games in PGN format HERE
