GM Petrov’s Attacking Ideas in the Openings - Video 4: Close Sicilian for Black

Opening: B25: Sicilian: Closed 2.Nc3 Nc6 3.g3 g6 4.Bg2 Bg7 5.d3 d6 (without 6.Be3 (B26)

Player(s): Salaun, Pedersen

In this video, GM Marian shows you some ideas on how to get active positions with black when white is not going for the main lines. This is not an easy task, as white wants to keep the game more positional and avoid complications. In the closed Sicilian with 2.Nc3, our GM suggests following the main long theoretical line, where black has a good and active position. If white skip Nc3 and goes directly d5, black should play 2...d5. After that, white is losing the right to castling, and black has the edge. In the lines with 2.c3, you have a couple of good ideas in the main lines.
