GM Misa Pap - How to beat the Sicilian Sveshnikov - Video 4: 8…Nb8 - Theory

Opening: B33: Sicilian Sveshnikov

Player(s): Carlsen, Caruana, Vachier-Lagrave, Nihal, Nepomniachtchi, Nakamura, Gelfand, Anand, Baron, So, Sadzikowski, Navara

In the next 2 videos, we will see how to handle the 8...Nb8 move. We will have a theoretical survey in this one, and in video 5, I will present some model games. If you ask me which is the "main move," that is not so clear today. Both moves lead to a very tough fight and complicated positions. Again, white's chances are on the Queenside because the whole pawn structure shows it (white pawns are usually on a5 and d5). Again, it is imperative to be careful about black's initiative on the kingside, so prophylaxis is essential. Black will usually manage to push f5, e4, and maybe even f4.
