In this chapter, we continue examining typical middlegames in the Italian game. Our focus is particularly on the modern middlegame tabiya that arises after the following standard opening moves: 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 4.0-0 Nf6 5.d3 d6 6.c3 0-0 7.Re1 a5 8.h3 h6 9.Nbd2 Be6. Over 200 official games were played from this tabiya over the last five years.
