Game Of the Week: GM Yu vs. GM Bruzon

Opening: C45: Scotch

Player(s): Yu, Bruzon

Three-time U.S. Champion GM Joel Benjamin brings you a new show every Friday at 15:00 Server Time. Joel is regarded by many as one of the best commentators and analysts' we have in the game today -- so if you want to get ahead of the game, get ready to tune-in!

China confirmed their dominance of team chess with a gold medal at the 2015 World Team Championship in Armenia. They were able to win despite leaving several 2700+ players - Li Chao, Wang Yue, and Wang Hao for instance - at home.

Ding Liren held down first board solidly while wunderkid Wei Yi pumped out 7 points in nine games. Our feature game was played by Yu Yangyi, who actually had a rather mediocre result, 5/9 with the only two losses for the Chinese team. The game shows that chess today is not just about the quality of your preparation, but also about the depth of your determination to fight through your problems. Lazaro Bruzon had a dream position, but found the knockout blow to be maddeningly elusive.
