The Moscow Open has returned with a little less luster than it had before. Still, there are quite a few strong players, even if many of them are lesser known Russians. Some very interesting games can fly under the radar; I think I found one in the contest between grandmasters Dmitry Kryakvin and Denis Khismatullin.

White sacrificed a piece just out of the opening, plunging the game into complications. The subsequent play saw a mixture of inspired resources and missed opportunities before settling into an endgame with one player squeezing and the other hanging on for dear life.
