Game Of the Week: GM Kasparov vs. GM Short

Opening: E11: Bogo-Indian defense

Player(s): Kasparov, Short

Three-time U.S. Champion GM Joel Benjamin brings you a new show every Friday at 15:00 Server Time. Joel is regarded by many as one of the best commentators and analysts' we have in the game today -- so if you want to get ahead of the game, get ready to tune-in!

Two legendary figures reprised their match from 1993. The World Championship was not on the line this time, but plenty of eyes were focused on Garry Kasparov as he made a rare foray into competitive chess since his retirement a decade ago.

While Nigel Short has remained active during this time, he wasn't able to make a competitive match. Kasparov won 8.5-1.5, absolutely devastating Short in the blitz games. But in the two rapid games, Nigel hung in there more effectively. In the very first game he absorbed some blows but kept on defending. Let's take a look at that game between the greatest players of my generation.
