Game Of the Week: GM Chand Sandipan vs. GM Baskaran Adhiban

Opening: D97: Grünfeld, Russian Variation with 7.e4

Player(s): Adhiban, Sandipan

Three-time U.S. Champion GM Joel Benjamin brings you a new show every Friday at 15:00 Server Time. Joel is regarded by many as one of the best commentators and analysts' we have in the game today -- so if you want to get ahead of the game, get ready to tune-in!

When working with talented young players I often have to work hard to get them to consider any continuation that leaves them a pawn down without an immediate tangible benefit. On the international level, however, it seems that players hardly count pawns at all.

In our featured game this week, 20-year-old Indian grandmaster Baskaran Adhiban found himself two pawns down by move 13 and it was all red-hot theory. His more experienced countryman, Chanda Sandipan, had to negotiate his way through various pitfalls in a game that somehow just kept on going. Let's see how it went down.
