Attack with LarryC: Liren Ding’s Lifto-Palooza

Opening: D39, A33: QGD: Vienna variation, English Opening

Player(s): Christiansen, Gschnitzer, Ding Liren, Lu Shanglei

Today Larry shows us two games in which one of his most loved chess themes is the center of the action: the rook-lift. The rook-lift, sometimes called "rover" as in "rook up and over", involves first moving a Rook forwards on a file and then horizontally on a rank. It's a strong resource in attacking situations and often leads the defender to face serious problems. The first game sees Larry himself involved, against Gschnitzer, back in 1991. The second game is from the 2012 Chinese Championship and features Ding Liren and Lu Shanglei.
