SIGNUP

***** SIGN UP *****

Signing up for ICC is easy. Please provide a few pieces of information
so that ICC can bring you the best possible service. See 'help register'
for the benefits of becoming an ICC member.

Be sure to save your user name and password some where safe. You will
need them to sign in to the ICC service.

        USER NAME

Your user name (also called a handle or nickname) is how you will be
identified on ICC.

A user name:
- May contain up to 15 letters and digits.
- Must begin with a letter.
- May contain one hyphen (-).
- May not contain spaces, underscores, or other punctuation.
- May not begin or end with "GM" or other FIDE titles.
- Must not be obscene or otherwise offensive.
- The digits 0 and 1 may not be between two letters. This is to avoid
confusion. For example in some fonts the number "1" and the lower case
  letter "l" look the same.

Consider choosing a user name that reflects your personality or some
aspect of your life. Also, working in part of your real name is a good
way to make your user name personal and unique.

Examples: FastSammyK, BigRussian, Owns3poodles, DrMary.

        PASSWORD

Your password is used to protect your account. Please enter your password
twice so that ICC can be sure we have it correct.

A password:
- May contain 6 to 15 letters, digits, and punctuation characters.
- May not contain spaces.
- May not be the same as your user name.
- Capitalization is taken into account.

Stronger passwords include a mix of upper and lower case letters, digits,
and other symbols. Avoid passwords that are words, names, or runs of
digits. These can be easily cracked by hackers.

        EMAIL ADDRESS

ICC uses your email address to send you important information about your
account. For example, once your registration is complete your user name
and password are email to you. Please save them for your records.

If you forget your password, you may also request that it be emailed to
you at: https://www.chessclub.com/helpcenter/mailpassword.html.

ICC values your privacy. ICC will not give out your email address. See
'help privacy'. ICC will only send you news by email if you request it.
You may unsubscribe to ICC's email news at any time. See 'help set'.

        REFERRALS AND PROMOTIONAL CODES

ICC encourages members to refer friends to ICC. When a new user buys a
membership, the referring member is given a bonus. If you were referred
by an existing ICC member, please indicate the members user name or real
name so that ICC can properly reward them.

If you have a special promotional code, please enter it here.

If you have both a promotional code and a referring member, please enter
the promotional code first and then the members handle, separated by a comma.

If you don't have either a referral or a promotional code, leave the text
box blank.

        TITLED PLAYERS

Titled players may be eligible for special privileges on ICC. If you have
a FIDE title, please indicate your real name and your title. ICC will not
disclose your real name without your permission. ICC will contact you to
help establish your account status. For more information see 'help titles'.

If you do not have a title, don't worry, most people on ICC don't. Just
leave the real name blank choose "none" for the title.

        COMPUTER CHESS

The use of computer chess playing programs or databases by normal members
of ICC is considered cheating and is not allowed. ICC has an aggressive
staff of "Busters" who monitor games and respond to allegations of computer
cheating. For more information see 'help SpeedTrap'.

ICC also allows users who write computer chess playing programs to set up
additional paid accounts for their computer programs. The user names of
these accounts are marked with a (C) so that everyone knows this opponent
is a computer or a human playing with computer assistance. If you are
setting up an account for a computer program, please indicate that in the
form. Also see 'help computers'.

Because of these policies, ICC offers members a wide variety of computer
opponents at all skill levels, as well as the most "honest" games in online chess.
