BLITZIN

Blitzin (BLITZ INterface) is Windows software for playing on the
Internet Chess Club.  It is an alternative to our recommended
ICC Dasher software.  You can download Blitzin for free from our website:

Features of Blitzin include:

 * Free for use on the ICC.

 * Multiple boards.  You can observe several games at once.
   The chessboard windows can be resized and moved individually.

 * Internal web window with access to such features as a graph of
   your rating.

 * Colored text.  Different colors of tells, channel-tells, etc.

 * Encrypted communications.

 * Support for Bughouse and Crazyhouse.  Drag and drop your available
   plunking pieces onto the board. 

 * Inactive chessboards are reused, to reduce window clutter.

 * Blitzin is good for giving simultaneous exhibitions.  Blitzin tracks
   all of the games you're playing in the simul, and brings to the forefront
   the one where you have the least time, among those in which it is your move.

 * Scrollbar for reviewing a game (including observed games).  Hint: use
   sposition to look at any past game, then scroll to review it. 

 * Customizable colors, font, and several game display and input options.

 * Easy dialog windows for seeking a match, setting variables, etc.

 * Log games in PGN format.  They get appended to a .pgn file in the working
   directory.  Blitzin can also read PGN files and upload games to your library
   on ICC or to an examined game.

 * Your display of your opponent's clock is as accurate as it can be,
   given that network latency is variable.

 * A few simple sound effects (if you have a sound card).  These are
   customizable.  

 * "Matches Sought" window displays seeks graphically.  Point to a circle
   to see details, click to play.  Circles are color-coded:  blue for computers,
   red for wild, gray for sfiltered seeks or those for which you're not eligible,
   orange for wild 17 (losers chess), pink for wild 23 (crazyhouse), green for
   normal.

 * You can retrieve a previously entered command using the up arrow.

 * The circle and arrow commands in examine mode are supported.  In examine mode,
   right-click to draw circles and arrows.

 * The Actions menu makes it easy to do some of the basic ICC operations,
   even if you don't know the names for the commands.

 * Support for future wild types where the moves have nonstandard
   action, such as wild 22 castling.

 * Easy-to-use game lists for history, liblist, stored, and search.  You can
   right-click on a line in one of those game list windows to
   get a pop-up menu for what you want to do with that game.

 * You can select someone's name (by double-clicking on it or by click-drag
   method) and right-click to get a menu. 

 * Multiple text consoles, which you can configure as you like.  To put the
   output of a command into a new window, hold down Ctrl when you
   hit Enter.  For the "tell" command, this automatically makes it a chat window.

 * Buttons for user-defined macros.

 * "Premove"

 * Check for Upgrade

 * Active hypertext links.

 * The Event window lists things going on right now, allowing you to just click
   to watch a GM game, join a tournament, or get information about an event.

 * Optional animated moves (pieces slide), configurable to different speeds.

 * Hit F9 to reply to whomever last sent you a "tell".  Repeat F9 to reply to
   the next to last person to send you a tell, etc.
  
 * Available in several different languages.
