Personal Notes

What can we learn about the state and mood of America from the discussion of 'politics' in ch97?

A massive, mostly very, very prosperous and peaceful and well-regulated society rolls along from day to day. People get up, go to work, get stuff done, go to parent-teacher nights. Their lives are stable and healthy.

But for political and commercial purposes, and reasons of cultural history, they exist in a state of seething anger, fear, blame and hostility, exaggerating the ordinary and necessary foibles of politicians into 'evil' and their own ease and comforts into cause for aggrieved hysterical tantrums.
