 3: Chess is just a game. My hard-earned recommendation is that you shouldn't
  take it too seriously unless your specific chess talent is enormous or it's
  an excellent social lift in your country (an example is India).
 4: Apart from certain benefits, the problem with chess and similar mind games
  is that they are very addictive.

 8: I like chess960, the Fischer invention, more than classical chess and am
  waiting for Chess960 to gain popularity. Won't die if it doesn't, though -
  there are many things one can do besides chess.
 9: Lessons selectively for 50$/hour. Have been coaching since 2001, not often
  but quite successfully.
