Chess is just a game. My hard-earned recommendation is that you shouldn't take it too seriously unless your specific chess talent is enormous or chess is an excellent social lift in your country (for example, in India).
Apart from certain benefits, there is a problem with chess and similar mind games: they are highly addictive. See the number of games I've played here!

I prefer Fischer chess over the traditional one, and hope those two versions of the game become equally popular. Won't die if it doesn't happen, though - there are many things to do besides chess.
