ICC Hosts the Inaugural US State Champion of Champions Tournament

Semis and Finals on Saturday, September 25 and Sunday, September 26

The US Chess Federation, America's Foundation for Chess, and the
Internet Chess Club present the inaugural Champion of Champions
Tournament. USCF state champions compete for a $1000 prize fund and a
spot in the 2004 US Chess Championships. This is the first time an
online event has been used to qualify for the US Chess Championships.

Thirty-eight USCF state champions from Eastern and Western states
competed in separate Swiss style qualifying tournaments on Saturday,
September 18 and Sunday, September 19, 2004. The finalists from the
Eastern division are Ronald Burnett, the state champion of Tennessee,
and Edward McHugh, the state champion of Connecticut. The finalists
from the Western division are Mark Ginsburg, the state champion of
Arizona, and Oleg Zaikov, the state champion of Oregon.

On Saturday, September 25, the two top finishers from each division
compete in the Semifinals: Mark Ginsburg vs. Edward McHugh and Ronald
Burnett vs. Oleg Zaikov. On Sunday, September 26, the winners of the
semi-final matches compete in the Finals. All events begin at 3:00 PM
Eastern time. Check out the listing in the Events window on ICC to
watch the events live. For more information, check out

ICC.

Chess.FM will present an online video with former US Chess Champion
Larry Christensen doing game analysis and Tony Rook recapping the
results of the qualification tournaments. Chess.FM will present an
online video recap of the semis and finals as well.

Congratulations to all of the participants and good luck to the four
finalists.
