The Chessclub.com Thematic Championship starts Dec 1st. This Championship like most previous events consists of three stages: Qualifiers, Candidates, and Finals. Free-trials members are invited to play in the first stage, but they cannot advance to later stages without registering for a paid membership by midnight Friday Dec 13. The Thematic Champs will also have an Under 2000 Champion and an Under 1500 Champion. The top four finishers rated under 2000 and under 1500 in each Qualifier will be invited to the respective Class Finals. Please see the web page listed below for eligibility requirements and other details about the class championships. The first stage will consist of 12 Qualifier events (7 round 4 2 Swisses) during the week of Dec 1-7. Openings moves will vary in each qualifier 1 through 6 and be repeated in 7 through 12. All Qualifiers will be held on LittlePer in channel 225. We have a goal of attracting 1000 players to the Qualifier series with an average attendance of 90 players. Play in as many Qualifiers as you can!! The top 3 finishers in EACH individual Qualifier and top 6 in overall Qualifier "series" (cumulative score from all qualifiers combined) earn invitations to the Candidates Stage. Alternate spots will be given to those who just miss out on qualifying. The schedule of Qualifiers is as follows (all times are server time or EDT. To see server time while at Chessclub.com, type "date") Week of Dec 1-7 SUN (Dec 1): 6am Noon 7pm MON (Dec 2): 6pm TUE (Dec 3): 3pm 8pm WED (Dec 4): 7pm THU (Dec 5): 3pm 6pm FRI (Dec 6): 3pm SAT (Dec 7): 7am 2pm No pre-registration is required for the Qualifiers. There is no limit to the number of Qualifiers one may play in. To play in a Qualifier tourney, just show up and type "tell LittlePer join !" when the Qualifier is open. For general info about tournaments, see "help Tomato". Top finishers from Stage 1 will be invited to Stage 2 which consist of two Candidates tourneys (12 round 3 0 swisses) the weekend of May 27-28. The top finishers in the Candidates earn spots in the 3 0 Finals which will be at 2pm on Saturday, Dec 21.
