Fall 2002 Correspondence Championship!

The Internet Chess Club is happy to announce the Fall 2002
Correspondence Championship!

As in our other correspondence events (help CC-Quads and
help CC-Events), the time control is 10 moves in 30 days.

The games will be rated, therefore membership in our rated
correspondence program is required.  This is free and easy to do
please see news 1623 or

Playing correspondence chess on ICC requires no record-keeping on
your part, unlike postal or email versions, since the server keeps
track of all your games, moves, and time used.  Your moves are sent
automatically via ICC message to your opponents.  Please see
help correspondence.

The Fall 2002 Correspondence Championship is offering ICC membership
extensions as prizes, in seven different rating sections:

U1200, 1200-1399, 1400-1599, 1600-1799, 1800-1999, 2000-2199, 2200+

The rating used will be your rating listed in help CorrRating,
which will be updated right after entries close. Your ICC standard
rating is used when you first sign up for our rated correspondence

Championship playing schedule (according to # of entrants):

(Top 2 finishers from each Prelim/Semi-Final advance to next stage)

5-7 players: DRR Final
8-14 players: Two RR Semi-Finals, DRR Final
15-21 players: Three RR Semi-Finals, DRR Final
22-28 players: Four RR Prelims, Two DRR Semi-Finals, DRR Final
29-35 players: Five RR Prelims, Two RR Semi-Finals, DRR Final
36-42 players: Six RR Prelims, Two RR Semi-Finals, DRR Final
43-49 players: Seven RR Prelims, Two RR Semi-Finals, DRR Final
50+ players: Eight RR Prelims, Three RR Semi-Finals, DRR Final

RR = Round Robin, which means you play each opponent once. Ratings
determine colors, according to USCF rules for pairing Round Robin
style tournaments.
DRR = Double Round Robin, which means you play each opponent twice,
once with White and once with Black.


Prelim 1st: 1/2 month
Semi-Final 1st: 1 month
Semi-Final 2nd: 1/2 month
Final 1st: 4 months (6 months for 2200+)
Final 2nd: 2 months (3 months for 2200+)

While logged onto ICC, send a message to the 'CorrChamps' account by

mess corrchamps I would like to play in the Fall Correspondence Championship

We will be accepting entries until midnight server time September 30,
2002 and play begins October 1, 2002.


1) ICC paid membership is required and must be maintained throughout
the Championship.  Exempted accounts are welcome also, and you can
always transfer your prize to a paying second account, or possibly
give it to a friend or student.

2) COMPUTER USE IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED.  You may refer to books and
other printed material, as well as databases, but you may NOT use
any chess-playing engine for assistance.
