WOLC: IanCurtis -- new League Champion

On Sunday, 25 June, 2000, the World Organization of Lightning
Chess celebrated its 1st Anniversary with the 1st-ever WOLC
"League Championships." There were 10 players participating on from Germany, Sweden, Spain, and the USA (with an
average rating of 2258).

After 6 rounds of exciting, swiss-pairing action, Karlitos
(ESP) and IanCurtis (GER) were tied for 1st with 14/18.
As announced, the players had to break the tie using 2-game
play-offs.  IanCurtis won both of the 1st, 2-games to earn
the title of "WOLC League Champion," $80 and 17.5GPP;
Karlitos earned $70 and 17.5 GPP.  WhiteHorse finished in 
3rd to earn $25 and 10 GPP; and, lhg won the final prize of
$25 and 5 GPP.  Also, Kylla won a FREE year's membership
in WOLC by finishing with the top U2100 score (6.5/18); 
and, earned an additional FREEmonth in WOLC (and 5 GPP!)
for having the biggest upset owing to a 1st-round even 
score against DukeNukem!

Incidentally, their results brought Karlitos and WhiteHorse
to within 10 points of moving into 2nd place in the GPP
race.  With just 4 more "Week-ENDer" events at
during this innaugural WOLC season, time is running out
on this race [which has prizes of $50 for 1st and $25 for
2nd], which Hawkeye leads by a fairly wide margin.
