Is the Ponziani superior to the Lopez?

With Black holding equality past move thirty in the Ruy, is it time to give up the ghost and consider the Ponziani as the proper reply to 2…Nf6?  3. c3 does not overextend, it supports d4, and opens up the light squares for many deadly Queen-Bishop skewers.  I see nothing wrong with equality, since all openings seem to lead there according to the computers.

Any opinions?
