So there no longer is an actual active computer pool competition?

They chose not to renew it after the December 2016 tournament ended. 
Since there is a considerable investment of time (tons of time) and money to setup and maintain a machine to compete in such a field- when the object of winning disappeared so did all the competitors.

I miss it greatly, and probably just gonna sell my chess server since all it does now is stockfish development.
